Primary school Steinach

The new elementary school was built on the existing school site in the area of the sports field. The new building is designed as part of the existing ensemble and the landscape and consists of two stepped structures whose roofs form a central terrace and a new sports field above.
The new school was planned as a cluster, with three classrooms and one group room arranged around an open learning landscape.
These learning landscapes are intended as places of community and creativity and are also suitable for all-day supervision. Here, students can work, play or relax in groups or on their own. The new building accommodates a total of 13 classrooms.
The former street used to run through the middle of the school campus. Now, traffic will be routed around the outside of the site, creating a sheltered schoolyard in the middle as a meeting point for all local school types. This schoolyard is terraced over several levels up to the new sports field on the roof of the new elementary school. A new gymnasium has also been built, which, like the sports field on the roof, can be used externally.
In the interests of sustainability, the building was constructed predominantly in timber, which was a first for Tyrol on this scale.
