Artistic Interventions in Public Space

Performances: September/ October 2019

“Place-making” with FRIEDERIKE: in a choreography, artists and participating residents appropriate the public space of the 14th district. The spectrum ranges from silent film projections in collaboration with Breitenseer Lichtspiele to pop-up solar cooking and a funky big band.

An ultra-light, portable event structure was developed for this, an extended suit and at the same time a changeable spatial shell. The experimental construction is a prototype for a dynamically changeable façade, as protective and permeable as a bird's plumage. In contrast to the construction of classical architecture, here the users potentially function as actors in the construction of the hybrid between stage set, roofing, screen, sun and rain protection. A choir under the direction of Pavel Naydenov is accompanied by accordionist Wolfgang Staribacher.

FRIEDERIKE encourages residents to actively engage with their living environment and district. It promotes the creation of centers and neighborhoods to strengthen the sense of belonging. For example, a workshop is held with the 7000 benches project - anyone can become a bencher.
